Senca turned, pushing the glass door to the bookstore open as quietly as she could, walking in slowly, knowing very well that there was no one behind her. It wasn't used all that much. People had better things to do than read a book or two. Senca raised her hand, tucking a loose strand of chocolate hair behind her ear. Her long, elegant waves were pulled up into a messy, but oddly classy bun on the back of her head, her bangs straightened a bit so they were still cast neatly across her fair toned forehead. Her chocolate eyes only had a thin line of eyeliner on, and barely any mascara. She glanced over at the small circle of lounge chairs, taking note of a man bent over a book, seeming rather focused on what he was reading. A gentle smile touched her lips. That meant she would be free to read in peace.
Senca took a turn down the aisle she visited most of the time. Romance, of course, but it wasn't the cheesy stuff. It was the stuff that would bring tears to you're eyes and make you're heart long for what the woman in the book had. It didn't take her long to find what she wanted, and she plucked it off the shelf without an ounce of trouble. She turned on her heel, moving easily back to the couches, and she chose the one by the window, sitting quietly for a moment before finally opened the cover and skimming the prolouge before diving into the words inked onto the paper. It didn't take long for her to drift off though. Her brown eyes rose from the pages and stared blankly out the glass, watching people walk past. A lot of them would look back at her, but they weren't there at that moment in time.
Finally, she shook her head and looked over to the man that was still drowning in his book. Senca wondered why she couldn't seem to focus that well on what she was reading. A quiet sigh left her rose-pink lips, and she looked down, her eyelashes brushing against the upper curve of her cheek bones. Thoughts of her brother began to dance in her mind. Where was he? Was he close? Would he know where to find her? Her brows furrowed on the middle of her forehead as she thought more about it. Was he ok? Did he... No. He couldn't have. He wouldn't meet the same fate their parents had so many years ago. She had to keep faith that it wouldn't. He was all she had left and if there was a God at all, he would be merciful enough to at least save her one relative. At least one person that she knew was still there for her.

It was a bright and sunny day, so Harrow decided it was best to keep away from the Inn. It was good for his captives to go a few days without seeing him. Sometimes they got too attached to seeing his face, it gave them something to look forward to every day. He couldn't have that, now could he? So he took a stroll around the city, take in some of the sites. Some humans watched him with fear, they knew who he was. Some thought that he was scarier than the vampires, because he could get them during the daylight. Of course, Harrow wasn't interested in adding to his collection today. It was a day off! So he found where he really wanted to be, Sawdust. The store was his personal favorite since it gave him an escape when he really needed it. So he pushed open the door and smiled to himself when he heard the little bell ring. There was something so simple and innocent about it, the irony consumed him.
He looked around, attempting to find his preferred section. He was a history addict, and while he owned most of the titles they offered, but the shop keep called him when they had a new shipment for him to pilfer through. He smiled at the female sitting on the couch and went to look for a book. He knew that woman... but from where? He never would have sold her, a beauty like that would be for his personal use. A leech would never appreciate her. For all of his dislike for the vampires, they made him a very wealthy man. He really would be nothing without the legalization of the human trade, he shook his head and went back to looking over the titles. Nothing really stood out at him, mainly because his attention was going back to that woman. She seemed so serene while reading, it was impossible not to watch her.
He took his book and made his way to where the sitting and reading area was. There were a few couches, with a common coffee table in the middle. Harrow smiled at the woman, "Would you mind if I take this seat?" He motioned to the single chair across from where she was sitting, "I would love the chance to join a beautiful woman."

Senca finally was able to swim in the book. It was a rather fast-paced mystery, romantic book. She didn't even catch the movement beside her when the man rose until he spoke. Senca's eyes opened wide and she looked up at him. His brown eyes were watching her so carefully, and it made her blush a little. Would you mind if I take this seat? he asked her. I would love the chance to join a beautiful woman. he added, and it caused her cheeks to pinken a bit more. His accent nearly gave her chills. Sure, if you'd like. she said softly, tucking the loose strand behiind her ear once more, glancing at the book in his hand. The title made her brow raise slightly, and she contemplated on asking what it was. Instead, she leaned back in the lounge chair, crossing her lengthy legs and folding the book closed on her lap.
I don't normally see other people in here. It seems that books have gotten a tad bit outdated. she said softly, her brown eyes never leaving his. He was quite the handsome thing, and he looked incredibly familiar. Senca searched his eyes, wondering if she could find something in those deep, brown eyes that would set off her memory, bring a name to his face. Nothing. Either he was really good at hiding things or it was one of those things where you recognize someone from somewhere, but don't really know them. Senca bit her bottom lips gently, his careful gaze making her slightly nervous. Its like he knew how to look at a woman just the right way; just the right way to make them squirm beneath his gaze. He was excellent at it, but she woudln't break in front of him. Instead she place a smile on her lips, and returned his gaze, awaiting his responce.

He finally took a moment to take in her outfit, she was a real lady. Her soft pink dress made him smile. It was refreshing to be around someone alive. A lot of the girls he owned wore dark clothes with holes everywhere. Their hair was full of unnatural color and more metal in their face than a silver mine. She was stunning and simply beautiful. He tilted his head in thanks when she agreed to let him sit with her. Truly an honor to be seen with an actual lady, instead of the vampire obsessed sluts who loved fangs in their necks. He smiled and settled into his personal seat. He watched her close her book, usually a good sign that she wanted to talk with him instead of reading in silence. This was a pretty good sign for Harrow, because he did not want to leave without getting to know the stunning woman across from him.
"Never outdated for me, Miss. They're a classic necessity." He loved a good book, getting lost in the plot, connecting with the characters, it was all amazing. He tried to place where he knew this girl, it had to be from the Inn. She didn't seem like the type to hang around vampires and drink until the late hours of the morning. A maid there? Or a barkeep... bartender! That's where he knew her! Harrow might have passed her a few times while bringing girls in and out of the back room. Now if he could just place a name. "Pardon my awful manners, I'm Harrow Quigg." He held his hand out and waited for hers in return.

Never outdated for me, Miss. They're a classic necessity. Senca smiled, a soft laugh leaving her lips. I'm glad someone feels the same as I do about them. she replied, brushing her bangs away from her eyes. As she watched his eyes, Senca saw the flash of realization as he remembered where he saw her from. If only she could do the same, but she didn't pay much attention to anything anymore. It wasn't worth it. Pardon my awful manners. I'm Harrow Quigg. Harrow Quigg... The name snapped into her memory like a rubber band breaking. He was the slave trader at the Inn. Thats where she knew him from, and it felt like someone had punched her in the chest. She shook his hand, giving him her name as she did. Senca Valyntine.
Senca hardly knew the man and yet she still felt the disappointment rolling through her. She thought he was someone she could really get to know, he seemed like that type of man. Now that she knew his profession, she wasn't sure. She didn't know if she wanted to be anymore affiliated with the human slave trade. You... You work at the Inn... Don't you? she questioned slowly, her brown eyes still not leaving his. No matter how much she was falling apart on the inside, her eyes never changed. They reflected how strong she was as she held herself together from this let down. She was afraid that he would use her. That he would strip her of the position as bartender and throw her to the sharks with the rest of the slaves to be sold. Those nerves got her heart racing and her palms began to sweat. Please... If theres any heart left in this man... God don't let him take me. she prayed in her head.

There was something hypnotizing about her big brown doe eyes, there was no way he would ever let her out of his sight after this. Harrow smiled at the girl, happy that she was the type who agreed with him. There was nothing sexier than a smart woman for him. He loved someone who could mentally keep up with him. Lots of people thought he was low and uneducated because of his profession. Nothing could be further from the truth, honestly. He had a very sharp wit about him, how else would he be a successful businessman. He took her hand when she said Senca Valyntine, he knew that was her! She was the bartender with the beautiful eyes and the ability to hold her own against any of the vampires who try to mess with her. She was amazing.
"The Boar's Head Inn? Yes, I work there, own half of it actually." He felt no shame in what he did. But it kept him safe and some of the girls he sold, they actually wanted this type of life. A few begged to be sold, since they found something romantic and sexy about being with a vampire. Harrow looked back up into those big doe eyes and saw nothing but fear. Did- Did she think he was going to sell her? Harrow reached out for her hand and gently took it, trying to comfort her. "You're safe, I swear it." He would never let a leech touch her, she was too beautiful, and he felt a connection with her that was almost frightening.

The Boar's Head Inn? Yes, I work there, own half of it actually. Yes, it was him. The same Harrow Quigg that sold humans to vampires. I'm the bartender there. she said softly, trying to keep the conversation going. He read her like a book though, and she felt him take her hand once more, she looked down at it, and realized she liked the feel of his hand. It was almost soothing. You're safe. I swear it. her eyes moved back up to his, searching his for any sign that he was lying to her, but there was none, and she could feel it in his tone of voice and the intensity of his gaze. Senca looked down once more, her teeth capturing her lower lip once more. People would call me a fool for trusting you, but I do. she whispered, moving her soft eyes back to his face. Her grip involuntarily tightened around his, as if she were holding onto him for dear life, making sure there was no way he could sell her. It was like she'd make sure he'd have to pry her away to sell her, but he said he wouldn't, and she trusted him, for some unknown reason. Senca looked over at the clock on the wall, and realized that it was time for her to head back to the Inn. The vampires would be rolling in, seeing as how there was an auctioin tonight.
Will you... Will you walk back with me? To the Inn? she asked him almost timidly. No, she was afraid of him. It was actually the complete opposite. The vampires obviously knew him very well and if he was going to stick true to his word, he would protect her from them. If anything, she wanted to be stuck under his arm, made property of his so she wouldn't have to go to one of those bloodsuckers.

He's done a lot of things that could make someone's skin crawl. Truly awful things to a lot of people. He's lost count of how many transactions he's been a part of, he's lost count of how many times he's come back to the cells and his captives hung themselves, cursing his name. They would rather embrace death than stay with him and go to a vampire master. He never felt bad about any of that, but when Senca looked terrified of him over just his name. It made him really wonder what kind of reputation he's amassed for himself. People would call me a fool for trusting you, but I do. He let go of a breath he didn't even know he was holding and smiled at her. He laced his fingers with hers and let a playful smile cross his face. "I cannot guarantee immediate change, but my dear, I will try to become a man worthy of that trust." He followed her eyes to the clock on the wall, damn it. The auctions were going to start soon. He had to prep the males who were being sold that night, and he was sure that she had to do whatever bartenders prepped.
Harrow smiled when she asked him to walk her back. "Be seen in the company of a beautiful woman, I would relish in the opportunity." He would keep any leech from touching her, from this moment on he would watch out for her like they were family or god-willing lovers. It's been a while since he found someone he felt so instantly connected with. It was a powerful thing, like fate pushed her towards him and now they were just saying Don't fuck it up.

Senca looked back down at their hands when he entwined their fingers. Why did it feel so perfect? The way their hands looked and felt together? She slid hers slowly from his, not wanting to feel such a connection with him. It was dangerous. So very, very dangerous. He was dangerous. I cannot guarantee immediate change, but my dear, I will try and become a man worthy of that trust. Senca's eyes found his after he finished speaking. Why was he going to change his ways now? He would of had to have seen her other a hundred times at the Inn, so what made him so eager to try and change now? It was all so confusing, so she didn't say anything, but stared into his eyes, still searching them, but searching his eyes was like trying to find a black piece of clothing in the dark. Nearly impossible. How many women had he played those eyes with? How man- No, Senca, stop it. She had to stop thinking of him as a monster if she were going to trust him and at least give him that chance. Her eyes searched his face. Handsome as the Devil. Senca felt her chest swell as she took a deep breath in and she realized that she was quite attracted to him physically, and slightly mentally and emotionally. So far, he seemed clever, witty, intelligent, and a gentleman; but for all she knew, this was just a mask. Time would tell whether or not her assumptions were true.
Be seen in the company of a beautiful woman, I would relish in the oppurtunity. A smile dashed her lips and she looked down, away from his eyes. How could any woman not smile at that sort of compliment. She stood up, setting the book on the side table beside her chair. It wouldn't be touched, she knew that for sure. She walked out, and as soon as they were side by side, her keeping herself on the side of the buildings, but close enough to Harrow that people would know she was with him, she said, How do I know that you're not playing me? It was a sudden outburst and instantly, her cheeks lit up like a firecracker. Nice going. You're probably gonna piss him off and he will want to sell you. You don't have to answer that. I'm sorry I even asked that... she added, falling over her words as she spoke. She looked up at him quickly, looking at his face for anger, but saw nothing.

Harrow never let himself feel like this, never wanted to be seen as weak and pathetic. But he felt protective over this girl and he wanted to keep her safe. He could recall now when he would watch her at the Inn. Her demeanor behind that bar was so fierce and so strong. While he watched her read, she seemed happy and relaxed. This was the Senca that he liked, the one who would let herself be weak. He wanted to protect her and be the man who she could stand behind. He knew it all seemed crazy, and if he was her, he wouldn't trust himself. But he only spoke the truth to her. He took her arm and walked with her outside. When she asked, How do I know that you're not playing me? he barely broke his stride. "Because I would never sell a woman like you. The girls who I sell, well, half of them ask for it. Literally, they find some sort of dark romance out of being with a vampire. I would never understand it, but yes. Some of them spend more money than they actually have and owe me something. I take whatever they want in trade, when they can't pay, they trade themselves. Only on rare occasions do I actually capture people." He voice was neutral and he was calm about it all. He wanted to be honest with her. She was so scared about it all, he was sure that his explanation wouldn't help too much, but it was something he needed to let her know. "A smart, beautiful woman like yourself, I would never dream about selling you. No vampire would ever deserve you."
Harrow smiled at her softly. "You can ask me anything you want, without fear of anything happening to you." He walked with her more, he would make this work. He would try to find a way to make her trust him. Harrow hated vampires more than anything, he would never give this beautiful woman away. A leech would never appreciate her body, her intelligence, her beauty. Everything about her was so damn perfect. undead hands should go nowhere near her.

Senca listened to his explanation in silence, her eyes watching her feet as they moved upon the sidewalk. Everything he said sounded honest, so she looked up at him and stared into his eyes from the side, since he wasn't watching her as he walked and talked. Still, there was no sign that he was lying. He looked at her then, and what he said next suprised her a bit and made her realize that he had no intention of selling her. She looked away from him to stop outside the door of the Inn and pull it open, walking in. There were a few vampires already perched on tables. Normally, she would swat them down, but it normally ended in them snapping their teeth at her after they got down in a playful manner, snickering as they did. She didn't want Harrow to see that, so she let it go. Seeing her with him, though, caused them to grow silent. It was a nice change. They usually liked to follow her up to the bar, asking her ignorant, and inappropriate questions, but now, they stayed where they were. She walked around the side of the bar, leaving the gate up so he could come through if he chose to. She placed her forarms on the bar, leaning on it. I feel safe around you, Harrow, and thats something rare for me. Its something about you that lets me know I am. I don't know why but... I'm curious as to what it is, and I want to figure out what that is... Senca paused for a moment, sucking her lower lips in between her teeth, contemplating on whether or not to say this, but she did, So don't be suprised when I come around you more often.
After she said that, she turned and walked down the bar, letting herself settle a bit. It had been ages since she had last even attempted to flirt with a man, but she wasn't really flirting. This was... deeper than flirting she felt like. Hey, sugar. Why don't you start pouring those drinks? came the smooth voice of a vampire. She turned to look over her shoulder at Harrow, a half-smile touching her lips. You're gonna be busy soon... Arn't you? she asked as she poured a drink, sounding almost disappointed.

Harrow watched as the vampires eyed her, and he felt something he's never felt before in his life. Jealousy. Pure and raw jealousy. He wanted to claw out the eyes of any vampire who thought it was okay to roam their lecherous gaze over her. Harrow could only imagine what their thoughts were. All of them were probably thinking about how amazing it would be to have sex with her, what it would be like to kiss her. The very same thoughts that were going through Harrow's head whenever he looked at the young lady. He took a seat on the patron's side of the bar, and removed his hat. He had to remember his manners in front of his lady. Yes, despite the unspoken feelings between them, he wanted to claim possession. She was his, so he would protect her like his own. "I think died and gone to heaven, a girlfriend who is intelligent and knows how to make a gin and tonic. I think I'm in love." He never called a girl a girlfriend before, so it was a little weird coming out of his mouth but he liked it on his ears. He couldn't stop smiling when he looked at her and heard a vampire tell her to start pouring those drinks. He sent a glare over to the leeches and ignored them. No vampire who talked to her like that should be allowed to keep their throat. Even though most of the vampires were there for him. You're gonna be busy soon... Arn't you? He nodded and looked around, pretty good turn out.
"I have a special girl up for auction today. Saving her virginity all of these years and a vampire is going to buy it." He kept his voice neutral about it. He made the mistake of talking to Frankie about all of this, it was hard to be excited about it. The money was going to be nice, but it was weird none the less.

Senca handed the vampire his drink, and he grabbed her hand as he took the drink, pulling her forward slightly. Her teeth clicked together and she glared viciously at him. He snickered and let go, and she pulled her hand back, glaring at the back of his head as he went. She grabbed a beer from under the counter, hooked the cap to the edge of it, and jarred it with the heel of her hand, popping the top off. She took a drink and set it back under so a leech wouldn't grab it to be a smartass. As she was swallowing, Harrow announced her as his girlfriend and she choked, putting her hand over her mouth to keep from spewing beer everywhere. Girlfriend? she asked, her brow arching. She didn't really care, and the way she asked wasn't a smartass type of way, but more suprised than anything. After he said the words 'gin' and 'tonic' she prepared it, mixing the drink and hooking a lime to the side before handing it to him. Normally, when a drink was mentioned, the person was craving it.
It was then that Harrow started talking about the girl that was for sale, and the way he did twisted her stomach. He seemed so... so... nonchalant about it. Senca grabbed her beer and turned, her back facing the bar, and she took a rather hefty swig of it before setting it down. Her teeth captured her lower lip, a habit when she was nervous, and she chewed on it before turning. She leaned against the oppsite counter, her hands propping her up. So the virgins are more expensive? Maybe she could twist this conversation away from that but distracting him with her own sex life. She didn't like talking about the slaves. Even though she was around it all the time, she still hadn't gotten used to it at all, and it still hurt a bit to know that they were being sold like animals.

Harrow felt a smile creep on his lips when she spewed out her beer. He figured that she would have that sort of a reaction. But it was a good word, and when she repeated it he just smiled and nodded. "Is there something untrue about that?" She slid his drink in front of him and he was grateful for it. He was getting pretty thirsty. He took a sip, she was pretty good at mixing drinks. She seemed a little on edge, but then again things were going pretty quickly. He was pretty happy with how this was. He took a sip of it and smiled at her. "Please don't choke, love." He asked her, smiling over his glass. He would really like for her to stay alive. She seemed like a good person. He looked around at the vampires gathered for his virgin sale. "Virgins, yeah. Vampires seem to like them." From what he's been able to gather, the vampires like taking a woman's virginity. Being somewhere that no one else has ever been. He didn't understand it, but he got paid extra so he was happy.
He knew that she was still uncomfortable with all of this, but it was his life. He wasn't keeping it a secret and he wasn't lying to her. This was probably the most honest he's ever been with a woman in his life. "I should probably head to the back to prep her. I'll see you afterwards." Harrow leaned forward and kissed her cheek softly. He grabbed his hat from the place next to him, placed it on his head and walked into the back room, smiling and thinking about Senca.

Senca stared at him when he asked if there was something untrue about her status as his 'girlfriend'. She shrugged, not really knowing how to answer him. He told her not to choke, and she smiled, almost embarassed. I won't, you just suprised me. her brown eyes landed on his again and she smiled softly, her cheeks a gentle pink hue. Another vampire came to order and she fixed it quickly, sliding it to him. She glanced at Harrow when he said that the vampires seemed to like the virgins better. I wouldn't be very much of a profit, than. she muttere, taking another swig of her beer. No, losing it wasn't chosen by her, but rather by her partner. It didn't bother her anymore, she had gotten over it pretty quickly. In today's society, protecting something like that is almost impossible. Senca smiled softly when Harrow leaned foreward to kiss her cheek before turning and disappearing into one of the back rooms.
The girl had been sold, and now, the Inn was empty. Senca had shed her pink top, not only in a white tank-top, her hair tied into a messy bun. She had been busy when the auction started and the place was a mess. She had just finished picking up a broken glass, and now she was cleaning tables and setting the chairs up on them. The CD player was low, but when a familiar song came on, she'd hum gently to it. She liked it when it was quiet like this.
